I am in the market for a new SSD for my MacBook Pro - currently on a 2016 model but this year I will upgrade to the next generation.

I am stuck in my head to either buy the Sandisk at 1050 speed vs the currently unsupported on my Mac 2000 speed drive. I don't mind spending the money to get the faster drive now if there is a good chance it will work on the next generation at full speed.

Anyone have any insights?

I think right now it appears unlikely that Macs will ever support the 3.2 Gen 2x2 protocol, as the current USB 4 Macs do not support it and USB 4 may well rapidly become an industry standard (and supporting 3.2 Gen 2x2 is NOT mandatory). That said, the speed of 3.2 Gen 2 is already pretty fast.

thank you,

the more I read the more I just need to buy a Thunderbolt 3 enclosure and an SSD for that, will work now and takes away a lot of guessing.
