Check out the 2.93 GHz 24 inch iMac for $1299 on macmall.com. Just google it to get to it faster.

Advantage:
Similar graphics card, $200 cheaper (4670 21.5)
Way better graphics card, just $100 more (base model)
Larger display
No yellow screen problem
Sturdier pedestal thing

Disadvantages:
3.06 to 2.93 GHz
No LED backlighting
Larger bottom chin thing

If you're concerned about MacMall, I ordered my iPod touch and iMac from them and their service was excellant. They also send you a magazine every month I think with some cool deals.

Well i don't think so, the only real disadvantage is that the 21.5 has 3 MB of L2, while the 24 has 6 MB.

The 200 bucks difference is even smaller, if you consider this:

+The 21.5 has the Magic Mouse and The Wireless Keyboard.
+The 21.5 has Mac OS X 10.6
+The 21.5 can hold 16 GB of RAM.
+The 21.5 has 1 TB of HDD.
+The 21.5 has a SD slot.

BTW, you can get a Refurbished 21.5 w/ ATI 4670 for $1,299.

I've got the 3.06GHz 21.5" iMac it it is a far better deal than that 24".

I got mine from Apple as a refurb for $999 and have no yellow tint, no iSight dead pixels, no flickering, nothing.

My display is superior to that one, it can hold more RAM, I got a free wireless keyboard and magic mouse (which I sold as a package for $125, essentially making the price of my machine $125 less than $999). You didn't even mention the SD slot, which as a photographer I use on a daily basis.

And 3 MB of L2 instead of 6? I could care less.

Can someone post a lolcat that has something like "Pwned"? Because I just got Pwned.

$999 with the 9400m

I'm looking at the same exact thing now but with GT130. It's on promopointe.com. It's about $1223. It doesn't seem fake, but if we get ripped off we'll get a refund and if that doesn't work I'm reporting them to the law officials.

Owned

He He. I'm looking at the 27" iMac myself but am waiting to see what appears next week.

I completely agree, aar2697. I'd never purchase this iMac; it's simply not worth it. However, I can see the value if you're a basic user who does not plan to upgrade.

Habitus :apple:

I would if I could afford it.

And for those waiting for Monday, they just updated the high end imac with the i5/i7 so I doubt the top tier will change. I can see the low end switching to i3/i5 maybe?

100% not going to happen.

And why Monday?

Apple even is the 27th, a Wednesday.

Without knowing what you need it for none of us can really say. If you can afford it and want it, go for it, you won't be disappointed, it's a very high end machine.

I'm looking at the 21.5" and 24" iMacs on the Canadian refurb site at $1349.

The 24" seems more tempting due to the bigger screen and lower pixel density (for these old eyes). But the 21.5" is tempting due to the bigger HD (1TB versus 640GB), more room for RAM expansion, plus the SD slot. A minor downside of the 21.5" is the keyboard (no number pad).

Either would be great I'm sure.

promopointe.com looks fake.

The 21.5 iMac is completely perfect for me - it sits low on the desk so it actually looks smaller than the old 20 inch and yet the screen for films and photos is perfect. The old 24 inch looks colossal and I don't want colossal. 8 GB RAM? Pah, 4 is enough for me. Each to his own, right?
