Hi!

I'm moving out of my parents house to pursue music. I currently have an mid 2012 11" Macbook Air (1.7 Ghz Core i5, 8GB Ram, Intel HD Graphics 4000, 128GB SSD) but it's currently running a bit slow for music production. I'm running Logic and when I play a project with more than 15 tracks it'll overload and pause, plus the SSD is too small to hold all the files I need. I'm debating saving up $1500 CAD for the baseline 21.5" iMac, which also has 8GB Ram but a better processor, 1TB HD and graphics. Here's a quick outline of what I'd buy, either:

iMac 21.5” - $13,999*.15
= $1608.85
1TB HD (Time Machine) = $65 Western My Passport Ultra

Total: $1673.85

Macbook Air
Battery: $76.75*.15
= 88.26
SSD: 480GB $247.99*.15
= $285.18

21.5” Monitor $150

1TB HD (Time Machine) = $65 Western My Passport Ultra

Total: $588.44

I also plan to do a fresh install of OS X instead of backing up from Time Machine.

Would the $1000 justify the specs of the iMac? I know a knew model is set to release somewhat soon but if the new Pros are any indication, I won't be able to afford them lol.

Thanks guys
