Well we knew this. But it voids your warranty if you do so, and can ruin your imac.
 
If by user upgradable you mean, tear down the machine almost completely just to get to it, then yes it is. As is the hard drive in the 2011 iMacs, the GPU in 2011 iMacs, and the CPU in 2011 iMacs.

The point of the post was to affirmatively report to the wieners on this board that are head strong about upgrading the RAM themselves via a tear down.
