Following the release of iOS 12.1 on October 30, Apple has stopped signing iOS 12.0.1, the previous version of iOS that was available to consumers.

iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch owners who have upgraded to iOS 12.1 will no longer be able to downgrade to iOS 12.0.1. The iOS 12.1 update was significant, introducing Group FaceTime, eSIM support for Apple's newest iPhones, new emoji, and more.

Apple routinely stops signing older versions of software updates after new releases come out in order to encourage customers to keep their operating systems up to date.

iOS 12.1 is now the only version of iOS that can be installed on iPhones and iPads by the general public. Developers and public beta testers can download iOS 12.1.1, an iOS 12 update that's currently being beta tested.

Is it just me, or has the "I wish I could downgrade to iOS x.y" outcry been silent this year? iOS 12 is a huge improvement in nearly every way.
Well, I won’t say I wish I could downgrade to iOS 12.0.1 because I managed to downgrade to iOS 12.0.1 before they stopped signing it.

And why did I have to stay on iOS 12.0.1? Well, because of the repeated Wi-Fi and data connection issues I was suffering on my brand new iPhone 8 (I still have to change my signature on Macrumors) after updating to iOS 12.1

And because there’s the possibility of this connection issues to not be solved on future updates, and iOS 12.0.1 is secure enough (so far) and works flawlessly, I’m going to do the same I did with my iPhoneSE, which was kept on iOS 10.2, before battery-gate feature was activated.

I seem to be having WiFi connecting issues on my brand new iPad Pro. Did two speed tests side by side (one iPhone X and the other iPad Pro) and the iPad was getting 1mb and the iPhone 50mb. iPad is on 12.1 and iPhone is on 12.0.1

I think those of us are just tired of the constant nagging and had installed the tvOS profile to deal with this...
Yep, just installed the tvOS 12 beta profile tonight. It should keep my phone free of undesired updates until, at least, April 2021. Fingers crossed.

I think it's BS that you can't roll back devices to early OSes. I have an old iPad mini that is now so slow that it's hardly usable. Apple wants everyone on the latest so they can boast adoption rates and I suspect it helps with support issues. Not to mention (AFAIK) you can't turn off nagging upgrade/ update messages in iOS. I need to take my own advice - if it's not broken, don't fix it.

I stupidly updated (it's not an upgrade IMO) to Mojave and found no benefit. There was only a bunch of really annoying bugs that almost made the computer unusable. I know Apple will eventually fix them, but really it seems like they're pushing out OSes for the sake of doing so (or hardware support for new devices). However, this paragraph could be better suited in a different forum/ topic.

I want the ability to freely install iOS 5.1.1 or iOS 7.1.2 on my iPhone 4S. iOS 7.1.2, 8.4.1, or 9.3.5 on my iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S.

iOS 12 is fine (so far). Other than jailbreaking, no one wants to go back to iOS 11. But older versions of iOS? Older devices? HELL YEAH people want to downgrade.

The speed difference on an iPhone 4S or an iPad 2 running iOS 7.1.2 versus iOS 9.3.5 is INSANE.

There are some methods for some devices that let you downgrade, but it's usually messy. I have iOS 6.1.3 on my iPad 2, and iOS 8.4.1 on my iPhone 4S. I would have iOS 4.1 on my iPhone 3GS, but its charge port isn't working right (it charges, but no longer interfaces with a computer).

Yes, you can.

Just search on Google about installing a beta profile of tvOS 12 or WatchOS 5 on your iPhone. Once you’ve installed the beta profile of tvOS or WatchOS, you won’t be prompted to update, theoretically. For some people it fails to work, but usually it is pretty effective; your iPhone/iPad will tell you that your software is up to date.

Well, I think it safe to say that no one is going to want to downgrade to iOS 11!

Too many of my valued apps will stop working if I move from 10, so have had to stop there.

I still have apps that are not iOS 12 compatible yet.
I don't think the version of the profile matters as far as it simply being a non-iOS one so that the device wouldn't check for iOS updates.

Guess have to keep deleting the update like I have been doing for months...
Just install the tvOS 12 or WatchOS 5 beta profiles... I'm still not sure why do you say that you can't.
Even if you're on iOS 11, you can install those profiles, I guess.

Anyway, on the jailbreak subforums (or subreddits) you could get more info. But honestly, you don't lose anything just trying.

My mind
I got a Verizon Max delivered today on 12.0.1 and I think I'm leaving it there for awhile. I'll see what happens with a jailbreak. I have anther Max that I updated to the latest firmware just because I really don't care about jailbreaking anymore but I'll see what happens.

I installed the tvos beta 11 profile on the 12.0.1 phone. I heard the 12 profile doesn't work to block the updates.

@ImAnAgent if what you want is prevent the updates for a long time, install the tvOS 12 beta profile.

I performed a little experiment: installed the tvOS 11 beta profile on my new iPad and the tvOS 12 beta profile on my new iPhone 8. Both of them are on iOS 12.0.1

On the iPad, today I received the pop up saying iOS 12.1 was available, and the red badge on the Settings app. No download though.

On the iPhone everything stays clean and pristine, no signs from any update. So far so good. That's why I recommend the tvOS 12 beta profile.

EDIT: the badge appeared also on my iPhone with the tvOS 12 beta installed. It didn't download the update on any of my devices tho.
