Costco began selling select Macs this week in the United States, and it is offering a particularly notable deal of $200 off the new MacBook Air. The deal is available on its website, with in-store pickup available.

The base model 2018 MacBook Air with a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of SSD storage, and Intel UHD Graphics 617 is available for $999, down from Apple's regular price of $1,199. Costco's regular price on this configuration will be $1,149, or $50 off, once the sale ends.

Unfortunately, for anyone hoping to purchase one as a Christmas gift, Costco says the base model MacBook Air will ship the week of December 26.

If you don't have a Costco membership, and happen to live near a Micro Center store, the Apple Authorized Reseller is still offering $200 off the new MacBook Air at its 25 locations. Unlike Costco, this deal extends to the higher-end 2018 MacBook Air with 256GB storage for $1,199, down from $1,399 at Apple.

If neither Costco nor Micro Center is an option, Amazon is offering $140 off the base model 2018 MacBook Air in silver, bringing the price down to $1,059. While not as good of a deal, remember that a Costco membership costs $60.

These are the best deals we've seen on the new MacBook Air since its release in early November. The latest model features a long-awaited Retina display, faster eighth-generation Intel processor, up to 16GB of RAM, up to 1.5TB of SSD storage, Touch ID, and the Apple T2 Security chip with "Hey Siri" support.

So far the best deal was (is?) from B&H. Not only the same or better discount on pre-made models, but also on customized models.

Apple price matched B&H prices yesterday for a MacBook Air 16GB ram and 512 GB SSD.
 
No one is offering discounts on the 16 GB model unless you also upgrade the SSD. Only the "crap RAM edition" or the "more space than I need edition" get discounts.

Edit: I'm wrong. B&H seems to offer a RAM discount, just not on the Silver model, which is the only one I want.

Not even that thin :/ i cant figure why choose this over the mbp.
I wanted one but just doesnt make sense. The 12” is at least passive and small
 
All of the extreme "discounting" on things like the air, mbps, and even the xr give me hope that Apple is feeling the pain of their own hubris and is not seeing the sales they expected.

I recently had to purchase an iPad for a project and made sure to buy used, as I do not want any of my dollars reinforcing the current version of Apple or making them feel like I agree with their rediculous decisions.

They have a lot right when it comes to their tech stack and I think they could turn this ship around, but if they keep going toward being a luxury brand rather than an innovative brand, I hope to never give them anotger penny directly.

It makes sense for me. I wanted 16GB ram and I needed the larger SSD. I also have no need for the Touch Bar. I also don't do video editing or processor intensive work. So far this machine is just right.

Call them. They might give you the discount on the silver one.

So... Kinda like nTB macbook pro, but with worse CPU, worse GPU, worse screen, but 9% lighter?

I just feel it's still too bulky to fit between the 12" and touchbar 13".

Don't forget tapered design, Touch ID and 3rd gen butterfly keyboard, all of which I wanted. And believe me, this computer is not bulky.

Don’t waste your time dealing with the cool guys. They are convinced they know more than you and not following their opinions is a reflection of a defect in you. Just pity them and enjoy what works for you ;)
 
Sounds about right. Apple's laptops are about $200-$400 too high depending on the configuration.

I forgot about those 3, valid point.
All things considering nTB 13" is pointless.
I know it's not bulky, but between 13" TB and 12", i thought it would be more "between" and less like the 13" TB.

The spec police have always hated the MBA. When the iconic wedge-shaped 2010 MBA was introduced for $1299, the spec-miesters said it was just an expensive netbook; limited storage, only 2GB RAM, no backlit keyboard, too few ports, poor screen quality, etc...

We have heard this all before. The problem is that the MBA became one of the world's most popular laptops. The typical consumer loved it; students, office workers, and home users.

Over time, the 2010 MBA's price dropped as production increased and supply chain improved. The magical $999 retail price was not achieved overnight. Also, Apple improved the product by addressing some of the initial shortcomings like backlit keyboard and better battery life.

BTW - Does anyone know if Best Buy will price match Costco?
