is there a way to use the built in camera i have to record videos also? or is that not a possibility?

Go to iMovie and you will see underneath the "screen" where you preview your project there is a scissor icon with what seems like slider to it's left. Use your mouse/trackpad to move the slider to the movie icon on the left of this slider I speak of. From there, you should be able to figure out the play/stop/record buttons. Hope this helped you.
