Depends Greatly On The Weather
Would it be possible to allow well established users such as those with 500 plus posts to be able to use the Vbulletin quick post feature? This would save us having to click the reply button and load another window all together.

This is just a suggestion.

Thanks

It is a nice feature...has it been discussed before? I'm not trying to do-a-#$@$!ing-search you, Lex... I just can't remember if Arn provided a response on this topic before or not.

I can already tell you that they won't do it. Don't get your hopes up at all.

It causes more unthoughtful posts, which is more spam, which is making more work for the Moderators, and in the end, not helping MacRumors at all. :(

Mmm, well...*cough* with the exception of me, Mad Jew, and Abstract, most of the people who are in the 500+ club are not really spammers. Or, ahem, at least we're *tolerated* spammers.

But I dunno how vB works and whether this is a feature that can be doled out to a subset of users?

Yes it can be implemented and I think there will not be any spam from users with 500+ posts

it encourages more posting, and less thought given to posting. doesn't mean that it will neccissarialy all be 'spam' but it does create more problems than it is worth.

a good way to look at is this: if it is too much hassle to reply by a "click" before typing away, instead of just quick-replying, then you probably shouldn't be posting.

^i'm not trying to sound harsh there at all btw.

To be honest, I think the 500+ club includes the worst spammers on the board. The n00bs don't last long spamming because they either get bored and wander off to another forum that will give them a 'tar or they get sat upon by the 500+ club.

There are several in the 500+ club who spam with impunity and who, if I see their name as the last poster in a thread, I won't bother reading because I know it's most likely to be some trite remark that adds nothing to the discussion. And no, mkrishnan, you're not one of them!

The quick reply version of PlaceofDis's post would've looked like:

probably. ;)

and i remember the six month period you and i rocked Doc Qs stats.
i think we've calmed down since then.

This idea has been considered and rejected because the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. See thread.
Well, Q has spoken. ;) :D

I think it would be nice, I really like the quick edit function... Saves me so much more time. I'm more likely to go back and correct any of my errors because of it.

While I'd love the feature, and wouldn't abuse it, I think it would be a shame if MR were to turn into one of those unfortunate forums with posts like mkrishnan provided us an example with.

Overall, I guess we're better without it, but I'll kind of miss not having it. :)

Maybe enable it to people who have like 5000 posts or something.
Not like any of them would spam the site ...

ha.

;)

Or even better, you MUST have a 601 status to have it enabled.

Kind of bad positive-feedback cycle eh? Encourage rabid posters with a system that enhances rabidity? :p

Or, perhaps, it's a matter of acknowledging that these* people will post profusely no matter what, so might as well reduce the server load. :p

Yes, I'm one of those people.

Althought Doctor Q and the "Staff" dosn't agree I think that's a really good idea for users with 500+ Posts.

I agree.

(sorry, that was lame, and I apologize)

500 posts isn't much of a benchmark anymore since a lot of people have reached that, how bout make it 1000 or 1500 posts.
