22" Widescreen Monitor... 16:9 the way to go?

With a little Christmas money, I'm wanting to get a new widescreen monitor for my Mac Mini. Right now, it has very little use because of the crap monitor hooked up to it. I've spotted Dell S2209W and it seems like it would work for me as I primarily want to use my Mini as a media center and TV. I'm just curious is if the 16:9 aspect ratio would work properly with OS X. It would be my only TV and think it would work if OS X supported 1920x1080 properly as all my media is in the widescreen format.
