G'day,

I have a 2012 Mac mini i7 with 2 x 23" Apple Cinema Displays (Aluminium) A1082, and am looking at buying a 2nd hand M1 Mac mini.

I've seen various comments as to whether or not they are compatible with the M1 Mini (and if it can run both?).

Can someone offer a definitive answer, as a "cheap" AU$500 mini upgrade wont be cheap if I find the screens don't work...

Thanks!

Yes it works with M1 if you have the appropriate DVI adapter. (Single link DVI is sufficient.) You also need to download an app if you want to control the brightness from the keyboard. However if you don’t want to use an app you can simply use the side brightness buttons.

I’ve never tried running two simultaneously though.

With M1 mini, one of them will have to run via HDMI (using a HDMI to DVI will "probably" work fine)

I can confirm HDMI to DVI will work fine.

Thank-you!
Gracias!
Merci!
Danke!

To be honest I'd rather upgrade the screens too at this point, but that said - I do like my matte screens, and I don't have the cash to upgrade 2 monitors within the Apple family. (And I've never been a fan of non Apple monitors.)

G'day,

My 2020 Mac Mini has arrived, and I updated it to Sequoia. It appears to be running ok, except - one of the 2 x 23" ACD's is not playing nicely.

I have 2 adapters:

DVI - HDMI
DVI - Thunderbolt

"Monitor 1" when connected via Thunderbolt presents with an odd "transparent" appearance - windows are partially see-thru, menus also are partially see-thru. In addition however - when I close a window, it leaves part of the image behind!

If I swap the monitors over to the opposite ports - "Monitor 1" (now on HDMI) appears to be displaying properly, but the display is flickering.

Any ideas if this can be fixed via software or is it the adapter?

Update - I'm seeing the "ghosting" even on Monitor 2 now, with both adapters... And yet on a Samsung monitor direct to HDMI without any adapter there was no issue.
