My school's bookstore is selling 2 refurb 23" Apple Cinema Displays for $400 each. Given my setup(sig) I'm looking for a second monitor to do more graphic design work on. Is this a good deal? Or should I just wait it out for a 24" LED version later on?

EDIT: when I mean by wait, I mean save up for the 24" LED Cinema

so the $435 after tax is worth it? even though the display was introduced 5 years ago? I' had the 20" version and loved it up to the point of its death. I'm just afraid of buying into old technology with this purchase.

that 'old tech' is still being used in the highest of high-quality panels.

You'd be mad not to get it.

The bad thing is my new job doesnt start for another week and i would have to put it on my credit card:( I love it how you guys are saying this and my girlfriend is completely against it. lol

So pay it off in 3 weeks when you get paid. I would be all over that.

hang on guys. I agree this is an amazing deal, and I would totally buy these if I could. But he's a student with no job and trying to be responsible. I think that's admirable.

That said, I still think you should get one. The reason being that it's $400 now or $900 later for the 24" you mention. So even though I admire your restraint, this is going to save you money over your other option in the long run.

As long as its not literally 5 years old, you dont want to pay $400 on a monitor thats been used for 5 years. But $400 on a newish 23" is about as good a deal youre going to get for a monitor.

Yes....get it. I just bought a second 23" a few months ago for $500 cash on Craigslist. Was one of the best deals I ever have been involved with. $400 is unheard of, especially for a 23".

Check for fading, pixels, the usual suspects before buying.

Good luck.

First off, you guys are freaking awesome! lol and I want to thank everyone for their input. I've had a long talk with my girlfriend and I've decided to hold off on a second monitor for now... With a year away from graduating with a design degree, I think I'll be working the Samsung pretty hard until then. I have a pretty sick setup as it is for a college student. Anyway, thanks again guys!
