I was copying files from my M1 Mac mini 8gb ram 256 ssd to a sd card reader with a 4gb sd card plugged in to a usb hub. Not directly but still should not be that slow. It was only 1gb of files. It changed to 3 hours after 5 minutes so I cancelled it. And the second time much faster. But still initially it said 8k and 23 days. LOL. Maybe 30 years ago it would of taken 23 days to copy 1gb. But not these days. Just funny to see 23 days as an estimate however.

Sorry about the flash. Forgot to turn it off and it changed d to 3 hours before I could snap another pic.

Definitely WAY too long! Maybe try 1) shutting down the Mini, 2) "reseat" the 4 gb SD Card, 3) disconnect, then re-connect the hub, and 4) start up the Mini. Try a smaller file first to see what kind of time you get.

Another possibility is to plug the hub into another port on the Mini (assuming there is another one).

Seems like the reader somehow connected as usb-1 only? Just remove and reconnect. You can also figure out from System information about the USB hub what speed was negotiated between hub and mini. Happens, bad contact, bad cable, poorly seated SD card...

This. I have a bunch of cheap external SD card readers in a drawer which will be recognized as USB-1 devices. In some cases it helps to insert the SD card before mounting, for others it is the opposite 🤷‍♂️. Related: if you use a micro SD card adapter your reader might switch to USB-1. At the end I bought a “name” product specified
