The 15" MBP has 1440 x 900 pixel, the 24" LED Cinema Display has 1920 x 1200 pixel.
So you get 480 more horizontal times 300 more vertical pixel on 9" inches of display.
Thus one can deduce, the 24" has less pixel per inch (PPI), thus everything is a bit bigger.
But to be honest, I don't really understand your question?
Ah I see. Basically I was just asking if I will be underwhelmed. It seems like 15" to 30" would be worth it, but I'm not sure about the leap to 24".
I think the design of the 24" looks nicer but I found a really good deal on a 30"
Any insight?
It was last updated in late 2006 but is still a very, very good display. I got one myself and would buy it every time again.
The picture quality is outstanding and the manufacturing is first class.
You can, however, get the exact same panel of the 30" ACD in other displays like the 30" Samsung, HP or Dell 3007. They can be found much cheaper, but use an (imo) ugly and cheap plastic enclosure and don't have the same brightness of the ACD (400cd).
So if you're not after build quality, you can save a lot of money by not buying the 30" ACD.
Another option would be the Dell 3008, which has a more current panel and a wide range of inputs. Especially the fact that it has a display port can be very handy if you want to connect that display to a laptop, since it does not require a $100 adapter which you'd need for the Cinema Display. The 3008 is pricy though.
If you really want a large display, go 30". It offers 77% more real estate than a 24" screen!
Thank you, this was a great help. Would you say that the display quality of the 30" is on par with the 24"?
I have one, and it's fantastic. Feels huge to me, and I can put two Word pages side by side with ease. Also any video you watch will be much more enjoyable on an external 24".
Best of both worlds, mobility and desktop.
Somebody in town is willing to sell me their 24" LED for $450 and its still eligible for applecare. I would like to wait for the 27" to be released but I feel like this is too good to pass up.
How much $$ do you think the 27" will sell for when its released?
Considering the 24" goes for 899USD and the 30" for 1799USD, one could deduce, the 27" could cost 1349USD, while the entry 27" iMac costs 1699USD.
So maybe around 1200USD for the 27".
^^^^^
That does sound like a great deal.
