Hi there,

I'm a graphic designer about to upgrade from a 20" iMac G5. I've settled on the 15" Macbook Pro and I now need a nice big display to do the work on.

I need good colour reproduction. I'd probably use it for some gaming and _definitely_ for high definition movie watching.

Are there any displays worth around $550 USD that fulfill my needs?
I'd love to go for the Apple 23", but I'm wary of an older 2nd hand model and new they're very pricey.

Cheers!

check out dell, the make nice displays and have good colour. The 2408wfp is $619 though however a new model that is just released (Dell s2409w) costs $349. Check it out there are a whole bunch of them.

techbargains.com

i always check out that website for great deals on monitors. 24" displays have been going for as cheap as $300 this week, some without rebates, so just check regularly.

edit: Your budget's pretty high so you're not going to be skimped of features for 550

I have a Dell 2408FPW (calibrated) with my MBP and I am very pleased with it. I was fortunate to get it for $550 when Dell was having a sale back in June.

If color accuracy is important then you may as well forget about the cheaper 24" displays. The Dell 2408WFP when properly calibrated can be a good display, however if you search for reviews and discussions you will find it is almost a gamble as to whether you actually get a display that can be calibrated to be good.

The NEC LCD2470WNX is the next best thing in my opinion, but that will run you $750 at least. You may have the best luck with a used Apple Cinema display properly calibrated taking advantage of it's S-IPS panel.
