Hi all,
Today I started having a weird problem with my 24" iMac's screen (3.06 Ghz, 8800 GS model) -- the screen randomly seems to shut off and won't turn on for awhile. The first time it happened, the screen was totally black for about 5 minutes before coming back on; the second time, more like 30 minutes. During the black-out periods, the computer itself is fully functional -- iTunes continued to play and I could screen-share from my laptop and see my desktop and all of my apps just as if the computer was fine, but the screen remained totally off. The issue persisted across multiple reboots; the iMac started up fine and went to the login window, but no screen feedback at all. Both times when the screen came back on it seemed to be totally random (I wasn't using the iMac at the time).
So, two questions -- one, has anyone ever experienced something like this before, and two, do people think that it's a hardware problem with my screen or might it be a symptom of some other problem? I'm posting from the iMac right now and the screen looks as good as ever (very bright, no artifacts, etc).
