I currently have a MacBook Pro 16 (2021) and have ordered a Mac Studio, and am in the market for a new monitor(s).

Various threads here and elsewhere have suggested getting 4K monitor due to the scaling issues the new M1 Macs have with macOS and text. However with the limited options available for a 4K 24" monitor and me having a desire to get something modern with thin bezels, I'm not sure if there is something for me.

If there is something that is 24" and 4K with thin bezels, please do let me know. Otherwise I'm after a 24" monitor with thin bezels and a resolution that people think is acceptable to use on the latest Macs. Ideally this would have one USB port as well (if possible, but not essential).

Maybe you are lucky and find yourself a LG 24UD58-B like have running atm. It has a decent panel and has a nice ppt. unfortunately it seems to be discontinued. Otherwise 23,7 Zoll UltraFine™ 4K…but seem rare, too…

I just ordered an LG Ultrafine 24 inch from the Apple store. Based on the reviews and seeing displays before of it, I’d say that’s going to be a great choice. It’s also half the price of the Apple display and you can get it today versus months from now.

I just happened to look for it in the Apple Store Online (US).

Says it's available. And pretty quick delivery.

I am prob. going to order an M1 mini for testing some code and apps.

I am currently on a MacBook pro max 14" and use both that display and an LG 5K 27" as my "main" display.

Would you say, given the smaller screen size and fewer pixels, is that the 24" LG still looks sharp?

I am very happy with the sharpness of the 5K and would like something similar for an M1 Mini.

The 24UD58-B is not what Apple sells. When you can find the 24UD58, it sells for around $250-300. The panel is not the same quality as the more expensive one that Apple sells, however, but for the price it's fine.

PSA - I picked up a 27" Thunderbolt Display (QHD/WQHD - Wide Quad High Definition) for $200 in a local Mac repair shop. With the right dongle (Apple ...$50...REALLY?) I now have it connected to my M1 Mini alongside a 29" Dell running off the HDMI port which as I write is displaying Ventura developer beta full screen courtesy of Apple's Virtualization framework.

The Thunderbolt Display is not 4k. It's only 1440p.

I think the PPI is similar enough that it should be quite sharp. I will let you know when I get mine in, it’s due to arrive Wednesday. It’s been a while since I saw one in person but I do remember being quite impressed with it.

Getting a mini m1 to test instead of an imac 24" would also allow me to hook the LG 24" up to an m1 or m2 iPad pro I plan to purchase later this year.

sort of a two'fer. since its not going to me my main machine.

I got my LG Ultrafine 24" 4K display in and have spent the last couple of days on it. I can confirm that to my 37 year old eyes the sharpness is pretty much equal to the iMac 24" so this was a great buy.

I would highly recommend this display. It's a very solid screen quality, the integrated Mac controls make it feel very native the way an Apple display would, and it's available now (versus 8 weeks from now...) for half the price of the Apple Studio Display.

Actually, if you consider that the stand that it comes with adjusts vertically also, it is a fraction of the price. ($699 for LG versus $1999 for Apple Studio display with vertical movement on the stand).

I can also take off the stand and attach the VESA adapter that was included to change things anytime I want.

I am using a scaled resolution (Looks like 2304 x 1296) to get more stuff on the screen as the native one everything seems very large.

Despite being a "scaled resolution" I think it looks very good and my viewing distance is quite small. I am sitting very close to it. I think actually at my viewing distance the 27" might have been too large and made me need to move my neck around more.

The glossy nature means there ar some reflections but it doesn't feel very noticeable in actual use. I guess that's the same as the MacBook's own screen or an iMac screen.

The colors pop and the display feels very vivid. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I am on a MacBook Pro 14 M1Pro 10 core with 16GB RAM and my use is fairly basic. Safari, Messaging apps, Office work, occasional Photoshop/Final Cut, Starcraft 2. The resolution scaling, therefore, doesn't seem to slow me down or make any real difference.

For most people who don't push their computer to their absolute limits I am sure it will be a non-issue (if it really made a big difference Apple wouldn't allow it).

I am including a picture of my current setup for those who are curious. It shows you how close I am sitting. Unfortunately I have a small space in my place to squeeze in a workstation so I had to make do with what I had.
