The monitor's documentation says it can handle 110-240volts. I plugged it into a UK outlet with only a physical plug adapter (leaving the electricty untouched). When I turned it on the screen goes crazy and then it turns itself off a few seconds later.. I'm guessing I need something else?

AC input voltage / frequency / current: 100 to 240 VAC / 50 or 60 Hz + 3 Hz / 1.6A (Max.)

Inrush current 120V: 30A (Max.): 240V: 50A (Max.)

Sounds like it should work fine. I take it that you know it works OK on US AC (i.e. you have tried it in the US)?

Yeah, no problem in the US.. I guess i'll go home and try it again. Thanks

Maybe they sent you the wrong adapter.

I'm using a standard plug adapter. It only changes the shape of the plug, nothing else
