new MBP - how hot does it get?

oh my god.
that is insane.
my MBP Core Duo (old 2.16) is running at 113F (43ish Celsius) with safari, mail, and iTunes open, with the SMC fan control set at 3,500 RPM which is very noticeable. Without the fan app i tend to idle in the mid-60s C (about 150F)

i forgot to add, my itunes was actually running when i checked the temp and it was at 108 f.

Unless Apple drastically changed the heatsink, that temp cannot be reached without active cooling when running intensive apps.

i've been running my merom mbp for the last hour now with screen brightness at 10%, wifi turned off, and itunes playing full blast. a few other apps are opened such as activity monitor, preview, quicktime, and safari. the temperature has been sitting at a constant 38c. this is freaking awesome.
it is sitting on a plastic desk if that makes any difference. and no, the fans are not on. this thing is almost dead silent.
man it feels good to have a merom mbp. 😎

Wow that's awesome. I thought the C2D was a hotter processor? Either way, looks like Apple's figured out how to make the MBP run much cooler.

just surfing the net with itunes playing in the background, i have a steady 44-45c temperature reading. the mbp is sitting on my bed. i know if i had it on a flat surface such as a desk, it would run even cooler.
man i feel sorry for the ppl with the old mbp's who have heat issues. this new one is running GRRRRRRRRREAT! ...and cool too! 😛

tekmoe, I am SO envious! Mine doesn't ship until 10/31 - I still keep checking my "order status" every hour or so ....... same obsessive/compulsive behaviour as my repeated page reloads on the "photokina" thread a short time ago! 😱 😱 😱

oh my goodness....thats actually cooler than my ibook. I was actually starting to get worried about these new processors cause my friend has a macbook and it was TOASTIng anything it sat on, my ibook would get quite hot but not that hot, and then these chips were supposed to be worse. Sounds good to me. I get my ibook up to 50+C running a few apps and doing some light work. I just accept that now. I've had it as bad as around 68C when trying to do video editting....so glad i have a macpro for that. heh...im envious...id love to have a macbook pro, but no money for it, and no real purpose at the moment

Interesting. What do you get under Handbrake, and does any C2D owner have a IR thermometer to check case / exhaust temps?
On my CD 17" MBP, using Fan Control at 1500rpm as the base and just browsing the web, etc I get an exhaust temp of 41.6C, case temp (measured under the machine towards the back) of 35.3C while ambient is 18.3C.

As a brand new Mac user, I'm having trouble finding a way to check my temperatures. My C2D 15" MBP feels pretty warm, so I'm curious, but I haven't found a built-in way to check yet and one widget I tried could only see the sensor on the hard drive. What's the standard way to do this?
Undervolt!
Apple got really good CPU's from Intel. Most undervolters running MBPs get LV results. This reduces power dissipation with 10-15W. Remember the Core Duo and Core 2 Duo CPUs consumes 34W TDP

Found an app. I idle at 48C. While installing a WinXP in Parallels I've hit 60, but then the fans kick it up a notch and ram the temps down to around 51C. I'm sure it doesn't help that it's still warm where I live and the ambient temperature is 79F.

I'm not going to say its not warm, but having had a Core Duo MBP, I can say its significantly cooler, even cooler than my old Compaq.
The C2D CPU will consume more power at 100% CPU load, than the CD at 100% CPU load.
I want temps after a couple of cinebench runs.
