250 GB drive suddenly turned into 2.2TB

I've seem this before. I think it means the controller is dead or the drive is dead.

Happened to me before. The disk is dead. Make sure to back up any important files. Then goto the genius bar.

disk is dead, but as the other posters have neglected to see its an external drive so your not covered by apple.
take it to where you bought, judging by the size its old enough that you might not get covered.
