My Cmd+Space spotlight, which I'm now forced to use to open apps, keeps showing random sh*t from Files, despite "Files" being turned off in System Preferences.

As a result, when I try to open 1Password for example, I keep getting things like 1Password Installer, and it's driving me nuts. Any ideas?

On a side note taking these screenshots is a PITA now too, as Cmd+Shift+4 doesn't work for Spotlight screenshots.

Running 26.1, but same issue existed in 26.0 from b1 to launch. Same issue in iOS26 too, I can't hide files.

1Password Installer is an app and you are searching for an app name containing the term “1p”. You going to see both in the results. Delete 1Password Installer app. Probably in your Downloads folder.

I see, but as you can see it isn't even showing 1Password when I choose "Applications", just the installer 'app'. We often keep installer files in Downloads - I want those hidden.

I want the Spotlight > Apps section to *only* show installed apps. It is not. It's showing all kinds of things, such as .pif files, .zip files etc too, despite me turning off "Files" in Spotlight/Search settings.

Pressing ⌘1 should get you to Applications (only)

That's exactly how mine works.

OP, curious if "Files" means all files or just those in the Desktop/Documents folders and/or in iCloud Drive?

Also curious...why are you holding on to installer files in the downloads folder?
