from the bottom section of the finder. I accidentally dragged it out, I guess, but now I can't figure out how to add it back to the list in there. Can anyone help?

Thanks!

In finder, there are three sections, two on the left, a top and a bottom. I *think* the top one is all of the disks that are available. The bottom left is a list of your places like your folder (named after the user), Applications, Documents, Movies, etc... and it used to have a Desktop one. It was not a folder, but a little blue symbol. When I go to my own folder and drag over the desktop into the list, it isn't my desktop. It is empty, but my desktop is not empty. When I save to my desktop from Photoshop, what I save isn't on my desktop, either.

They are going to a folder named Desktop inside my user folder, but they do not show on my desktop.

Two issues here...the first is that you can get the Desktop icon back in the Sidebar by going to the Finder menu, select Preferences, click the Sidebar icon and check the box next to the Desktop option. Presto!

The other thing is I think in Photoshop, you have selected the Desktop folder and not the actual Desktop.

EDIT: Wait, those should be the same things shouldn't they...Hmmm.

I just dragged my desktop icon out of the finder as well--just to see what would happen. To get it back, just open a finder window, click on your home folder, and your desktop should show up in the resulting window/frame. You can then drag the desktop icon from the home folder to that bottom pane in the finder window. Viola!

I think we've got the Desktop folder in the Sidebar issue covered, but there seems to be another problem with the Desktop and where files are going.

You say that your Photoshop files are going to a folder called Desktop...is this directly inside in your user folder (in the same place as your Music/Movies/Documents folders) or is it somewhere else? Does the Desktop item have the Desktop-like icon or is it a generic folder icon.

Screenshots of some of these things might be helpful if you can censor any private info you don't want displayed.

ShermDog, just did that, still not showing up in the list.

TheAnswer, um, you'd think they were the same, but...saving into the folder called Desktop inside my Kathy folder (which is my user name) does not put anything on my desktop.

Um, see signature please **blushes** ...I don't know how to do a screenshot on a Mac :) .

I actually thought they were different, until I opened up my Desktop folder and saw all the files on my desktop in there.

Hmm...what happens if you take a copy of a document (make sure it's a copy, just in case it disappears somewhere) and drag it to the physical desktop (not the icon in the sidebar or the folder) just out onto the background picture...does it show up in that folder in your Kathy folder?

I get this:

The item "itemname.jpg" could not be moved because "Desktop" cannot be modified.

Here is a guide to taking screenshots.

In brief, you'll probably want to hit Command-Shift-4 (at which point you'll see crosshairs), then the space bar (at which point you'll see a camera), then click in the Finder window showing how things look for you. It should save the screenshot in a file (probably called "Picture 1") on your Desktop, but with the problems you're having it may not show up, so you may have to Spotlight search for it.

Open the file in Photoshop and blur out and details you don't want to share, then attach it your post using the paperclip icon above the window where you compose your posts.

topgun, that's funny, but thankfully, no. I just got it a week and a half ago!

Okay, I did the screen shot and when I tracked it down, it was putting it in that same folder called Desktop inside my folder, but still not on my real desktop. So, I restarted. When I opened finder, it still wasn't there, but the icons were getting on my nerves because they were all not lined up like I wanted them so I clicked show view options and told it to Keep Arranged By Kind and it magically reappeared! I can also save to it now.

Weirdness, but I tell you, if anyone can make weirdness happen with a computer, it's me.

Thanks for all the help!
