Hi there,

I have recently purchased a 27" Thunderbolt Cinema Display and a 24" Cinema Display which has mini display port. I have a a 2017 MacBook Pro and wondered if it is possible to have both monitors connected and how I would go about doing it?

Thanks ever so much in advance for any advice.

Kind regards,

Sammy

Hello Sammy,

I'm not sure which model of 2017 MBP you have, but the 13-inch non-Touch Bar model (the most basic model) can support two 4K displays as well as using the main display according to this link - both of your monitors are lower resolution than 4K, so you should have no trouble. The 13-inch model with the Touch Bar and the 15-inch model will also be able to handle the displays with no issues.

For the Thunderbolt Display, you will need one of these adapters to convert the Thunderbolt 1 from the display to Thunderbolt 3 (which your MacBook will support). The ports on the monitor should also work using this method, but I believe that charging the MacBook through the display will not work.

The Cinema Display will be able to work using a USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter, such as this one on Amazon.com.

I hope this helps!
