Hi,

I have a question regarding connecting my MBP M3 Max and M4 Pro to an external 27" 4K display, that supports a refresh rate of let's say 120 Hz @4K. I would configure my MBPs to appear like 1440 on the 4K display. I read somewhere that MacOS actually uses a 5K image and scales it down to 4K. Does it mean I can get only 60Hz, because that's what my MBPs support for 5K or may I get 120 Hz, because that's what the MBPs support @4K?

Best regards

You’ll get the refresh rate at 120hz but because of the scaling you’ll get really bad PPI regardless of 4K so fonts and text will be fuzzy or grainy (less sharp).

Screen clip of 4K @ 120 set to 1440.
