27" cinema display and 9400M (2009 macbook pro 13)

Anyone using this combination? I got the display home and can't run full screen video it gets all choppy. realized my graphics are probably underpowered, unless theres something i'm doing wrong? any ideas thanks

I have 2008 Alu MacBook, I think pretty much the same specs.
I can play 1080p video full screen no problem. I start getting lag when doing more graphic intensive stuff like aperture and imovie

maybe its just the program, the lag was on hulu at fullscreen, it didnt do it on my old monitor so i dont think its bandwith-related. i downloaded something from itunes at HD and it seemed to play OK. maybe its just the flash app in hulu that can't keep up or something :/
