After hooking up the sound cord to the jack in the back the other night to watch a movie, we can't get the speakers on the iMac to work. there is also a red light coming out of one of the sound jacks. It still works fine when we hook up the cord and pipe it over to the surround sound.:confused::confused:

thanks for the help:D

Open your "system preferences", pick "sound", and set the output device back to "internal speakers" (it is probably on "line out").

The red light coming out of the audio jack is the optical digital output which requires a special fiber-optic cable to use. You may have optical jacks on your surround sound system as well if you wanted to use them.

thanks hfg, It seems to be a little more complicated than that. It seems to be a hardware problem where the jack still thinks there is wire connected. I got to spend a lot of time on the phone with a specialist yesterday:D.
