Advice? DVDs I burn are skipping

I have been using MactheRipper to extract DVDs, then I use to Toast8 to compress files and burn to 4.7gb DVD. The video_ts files play fine on my computer, but the burnt DVD skips on my computer and tv. Does compressing them cause them to skip? Anyone else had this problem? Any advice would be appreciated.

Blank segment at beginning of burnt DVD

Does anyone know what causes a 2-3 minute blank segment to be added at the beginning of the dvds i copy? This has happened several times. Eventually the movie will start, but I have to sit through about 3 minutes of black screen first. >>>?????

Does compressing files cause a dvd to skip?

Using Mac the Ripper to extract, then compressing and burning using Toast8. Does compressing a 6gb file down to a 4.7 disk cause the disk to skip? would burning straight to a double layer dvd solve this problem.
