Im new to mac environment and was just wondering what the alternative was for Daemon tools and Alcohol 120% on the Mac. Im looking to mount some of my .iso's can anyone point me in the right direction

Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities/) should be able to.

You can do this either via the command-line as you posted or in Disk Copy/Disk Utility. Drag the image to the sidebar, select it and click Mount.

Yeah, ISO support is built into the OS. Unless ... you also need some copy protection emulation or the like. Then, Daemon Tools/Alcohol are superior.

toast works for mounting i know lots of games with out a nocd that wouldnt recognize as a legit disk with disk utility's mounter
worked through mounting in toast

I need the program for mounting my .iso's. Daemon tools AND Alcohol 120% aren't available for the mac platform. Can i assume that Toast is the alternative for mounting my .iso's. Im looking for the cd/dvd emulation thing in Daemon tools which allows you to uses your cds without putting them into the disk drive.

Yes, when Toast mounts disc images they appear as CDs or DVDs to the system, not just mounted disc images a la Disk Utility.

Yes. Once you have a CD set up in Toast, just hit Command+D to make a disk image. The .toast format can be renamed .iso and will work fine.

I'm still hunting for an alternative to Daemon tools. If you have a dvd iso it will mount it but can't play it. Any other options?

Huh? Whats keeping you from just mounting it normally without any third party software, and then just open "DVD Player" program. It should auto start playing the mounted "DVD" image just fine?

At least mine does ...

Any piece of software that is looking for a cd/dvd player on say an MBA or MBP Retina. Those machines do not have a cd/dvd player and without any 3rd party software the iso images are mounted as a bog standard disk image making them look more like folders than actual discs. As far as I know Toast is the only piece of software that gives you a virtual cd/dvd player like Daemon Tools does.

This is what's keeping me from running C&C Generals Zero Hour on my MBA: I need to have the dvd inserted when starting the app for licensing. It's a bit annoying to carry my external dvd drive for just that.

I might give Daemon Tools Lite for Mac a try but I must say that my alarm bells are going off. Daemon Tools has been linked to spyware. It was the Windows version a while back, I'm not sure what the status of that is right now and if it also goes for the OS X version.

Edit: Daemon Tools is still spyware so no option at all. Roxio Toast seems to be the only solution if you want a virtual cd/dvd drive.
