2FA--logging into macOS

With Apple's focus on privacy and security, it seems odd that there is no native way to enable 2FA when logging into macOS or unlocking a Mac after a certain period of time.

Is there a way to do this? I see that Duo has an option for Macs with Intel chips but not with M1 ARM chips.
