so apple used to recommend completely draining your battery upon first use and then giving it a full charge but i couldn't find any thing relating to that in the current documentation. http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html
yesterday it finally ran down completely - the iPod wouldn't even turn on to give me the low battery icon. i plugged it into my iMac (1st gen aluminum), it updated and charged.

my battery was completely charged in about 2 hours. (iPod documentation says it should take 4.)
my iMac went to sleep but still charged the iPod. (most apple docs say iPods won't charge over USB while comp is sleeping.)

so a couple nice surprises there. :)

That's good news, especially since I'm getting a 16GB on the 28th.
In reference to it charging when your iMac is sleeping and Apple saying it's not supposed to, they probably said that because most other models don't charge it while sleeping.
