So, I have given my old iPhone long ago to my girlfriend, who uses the phone on tmobile. I'm responsible for hacking it and keeping it up to date. I just got around to upgrading her to 2.1 last night, and ran into mucho problemos.
I created a new ipsw with PwnageTool on my Macbook Pro. Loaded it, and then proceeded to restore a backup from her computer. This is my normal method, even though I know most recommend setting it up as a new phone. Well, I restored the backup, the phone rebooted, and it gets stuck and won't boot all the way. I get the apple logo with the spinning wheel, and eventually a reset, looping through the process. So, I put the phone back into DFU mode, and restored my ipsw again, but set the phone up as a new phone this time around. That all worked, and everything synched, but I went to install openssh so that I could copy over a pink theme, and I get a weird message from Cydia telling me that the repo which contains openssh must not be installed. But it shows the community sources repo as installed, and pretty much the same setup as is on my 3g iPhone.
So, I just went back to the jailbroken 2.0.2 firmware ipsw I had in my files, and got it back to the way it was for her. But I want to find out what went wrong and try again. Anyone have a clue?
