I am using my 2G Iphone as a IPOD/internet device for the time being.

I already upgraded my 3G phone and everything went fine. But when I update the 2G, it says I have to insert a SIM to activate. Do I have to take my SIM out of the 3G activate the 2G, then put it back into the 3G? If so, will i have to restore the 3G in the process wiping my data and start clean?

Thanks for any help.

No you wont need to restore the 3G... just do these:
1. Take out the sim card from 3G
2. Insert to 2G and plug it in and activate it
3. Take out the sim card from 2G
4. Put back in the 3G
5. Voila

When i put the 3G sim in the 2G and connect to itunes, it says Welcome to you new iphone and the next screen is this:

I don't want to make this my new iphone, or replace the existing one on my account.

anyone else with any ideas? If I go through with replacing my 3G with the 2G like the picture above wants, will I have to do the same thing when I put the SIM back in the 3G? I'm trying to avoid reloading all my info back onto the 3G (wifi passwords, music, videos, home screen buttons)
