Hi guys

First post here having stalked on and off for years.

Have been itching to get a secondhand or boxed 2017/18 MPB for several months. I do all my production work in W10 but TBH I'm bored of Windows and fancy some OSX action (I have an old Mini running EC which reminds me of that craving). Also, there are plenty of OSX apps I'd like to experiment with too.

Need enough power to drive apps like Camtasia in Parallels on a single 4k monitor (probably LG). So I'm thinking 15" + 16Gb + 512Gb ... which means it comes down to 2Gb vs 4Gb GPU. There are far more of the former on eBay, and generally they're cheaper. But will a 2Gb card achieve this reliably? I reckon a 4Gb card will be 100% fine.

Before you ask, yes I might mess around with FCP at some point, but a number of clients specifically use the Win version of Camtasia.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers
TM

Does Camtasia run well in Parallels? I use Camtasia all the time, but only the Mac version on a Mac, or the Windows version Windows.

I wonder how the recording sessions are going to work with Camtasia running in Parallels. Or are you just assembling client's screen captures and producing the final MP4.

That's an interesting question. I'm not expecting recording captures to be entirely reliable, but I'd like to think that working with a client's captures (or other source material) will be fine.

Techsmith stated in Sep 2018 that Parallels is not a supported environment. Mac and Win project files are also not interoperable - they need exporting. Not sure if that means it's feasible to use the Mac version to do captures and then export them to Win for me (or others) to produce in Win?

Aside from Camtasia, I use tools such as Articulate Storyline which have a lot of Parallels fans.
