2nd External Hard Drive: Daisy Chaining Firewire vs. USB?

I've just bought a 2nd external hard drive for my Mac Mini, but I'm not sure what the best way to connect it is.

The 1st drive is connected via Firewire.

So I think I can either daisy chain the new 2nd drive over Firewire as well

or

I can have one drive on Firewire and the other on USB.

It's unlikely I'll be using both external drives intensively at the same time.

Does anyone have any ideas on which would give the best performance?

Daisy chain the new 2nd drive over Firewire.

This way you will also save a USB port for other peripherals.
