Okay so I'm using a Dell Ultrasharp 2407 as my main screen, and I just recently got a Dell E248WFP. I'm asking if anyone can actually advise me to keep it. I've done a ton of calibration and setting changes and have finally gotten the colors correct for the middle of the screen, but the top of the screen is VERY dark while the bottom is VERY bright. Is this a regular characteristic of this model because I cant stand to look at it. Is it defective maybe?

Are you using a hardware calibration tool? If not, I would strongly consider getting one. Some MacBooks currently have a bluish tint, quite impossible to calibrate without some sort of hardware tool.

If after that, you think it's still bad, I would return the Dell. No need keeping something that will make you miserable ever time you look at it.
