Anyone ripped open one of the cheap portable drives? Seagate or WD?
They are USB powered and more than likely 2.5' 5400 or 7200 rpm.

So was thinking I could save myself some cash and put one in my
macbook to get a 2TB drive for $150.00 or less.

Any thoughts??

thanks
Ian

I don't understand why you wouldn't just order a 9.5mm hard drive from NewEgg. Many of the USB bus powered portable drives are indeed 12.5mm and will not fit properly or at all in your MacBook. Also, check Amazon for hard drives. Make sure it is a 9.5mm hard drive if possible.
