So with both dou mpx modules installed 'separately' with their own single infinity link, everything works fine, though the "About this Mac" says there's only 32Gb gpu ram which seems odd for a 64 MPX and 2 of them.

The ISSUE is using the 'double wide' Infinity Link, used to span BOTH MPX modules. When installed, start-up won't occur at all. Is there something to figure out here ?

Update: YES, I ordered the correct "version":
Item: Apple AMD Infinity Fabric Link for Vega II and Vega II Duo MPX Modules. Interconnect two MPX modules in two MPX bays for improved multi-GPU performance in your Mac Pro (2019). *New, Bulk Packaged*; 90 Day OWC Fulfilled Limited Warranty. (APLVCRA2326)

And on same order:
Item: Apple AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duo MPX Module for Mac Pro (2019). Up to 28.3 teraflops of combined compute performance. 64GB HBM2 memory (32GB per GPU), 4 x Thunderbolt 3 ports, 1 x HDMI 2.0 port. Features AMD's Infini; 90 Day OWC Fulfilled Limited Warranty. (APLVMW732AMAU)
Quantity: 2

Is the infinity link bridge the version specific to the actual cards you're using?

But that's normal showing 32GB however, at least as far as I've seen.

Mine only shows that with the W6800X Duos (x2):

But, if you look in the system profile it shows all the GPUs:

I thought you could only use the specific infinity link for these, IE, not the one for the non Duo cards? I'm speaking for the W6800X Duos, but I suppose it would be similar for the older cards too.

Thank you, and yes, it all shows in the system profile. It kind of makes me wonder if just one card + Afterburner would yield similar performance results for FCP. I shoot video in Pro Res raw on a Nikon but also have a lot of Canon footage. I'm new to the video side but was trying to just get a few things set up last year when parts were cheap.

Those ****twits said to call apple and didn't even mention there being different versions. Also, are you sure there are "versions" ?

For the newer cards, the W6800X/W6900X version is an A2666 and for the W6800X Duo it's an A2667:

Also watch out this note at the bottom of the page:

Infinity Fabric Link bridge for Radeon Pro W6800X Duo MPX Module (Model A2667) isn't compatible with previous-generation Radeon Pro MPX Modules.

Are you certain you've got the correct version? It appears what you want is an A2326:

Edit: It looks like you did order that version, so that should work. Hmm....

The technology white paper on the Mac Pro doesn't say anything of the model numbers of those fabric links either:

I'm going to check it to see if it has any numbers on it to be sure it IS correct even though my order info suggests it was. See my updated first post now.

Check your two Vega II cards in System Profiler. See if they truly are identical, or if they have different firmware versions. The "Revision ID" looks like an abbreviated firmware version. It's visible both in Graphics/Displays, and in the PCI section, which gives a bit more card info. I'd compare the info on both cards, looking for any differences.

regarding firmware, would I want to update them regardless of this issue?

I haven't noticed Apple update the firmware on OEM GPUs. So not sure how that would work.

Rather, I'm trying to think of reasons to explain your symptoms. Like GPUs with mismatched firmware. I'd also inspect the infinity link connectors for damage, on the bridge and the cards.

Figuring out what's causing the issue would lead to solutions.

The single form factor infinity links are installed and everything works fine. The double-wide is new and looks perfect. I will check the unit firmware.

I'm pretty sure I had one when upgrading to MacOS Tahoe.

I had a W6800X Duo that had random issues not waking after the comptuer went to sleep. After the MacOS update, this issue went away completely and that card is perfect again, never seen the problem ever again.

So you didn't proactively update it, but the OS update/change, either seemed to do it or there was something mentioned in the list of things specifically about that cars or gpu's ?

Also, do you have and use both of the 2019 in your signature? If so, any opinion on the 2x cards vs the single + afterburner? I ask because I also have a single 6800 dou mpx and an Afterburner, but also a 2nd 2019 to set up for another location. I wonder if one set up would be better for video, whether Final Cut or ProRes vs Lightroom.
Thanks

So you didn't proactively update it

I don't think you can via MacOS. It just started working perfectly after the MacOS Tahoe update. I was most surprised and it still is working correctly.

The afterburner has not made that much of a difference for me. I prefer the Duo machine.
