Anyone get this message from Apple: I haven't re-plugged mine in so I couldn't check.

Dear Customer,
If you've installed the Apple TV 3.0 software update, you should immediately update to version 3.0.1. This prevents content from temporarily disappearing until it is resynced.
To update your Apple TV software:
1. Reboot your Apple TV (unplug the power cord and plug it back in)
2. Select Settings > General from the main menu
3. Select Update Software
4. Select Download and Install
Note: Your Apple TV will conduct a restart, which is followed by the Apple logo and a status bar.
For more information, please refer to this article:

If you need further assistance with your Apple TV, contact AppleCare.
Sincerely,
Apple TV Team

Apple TV 3.01

An urgent 3.01 update is out. Received an email from Apple to update immediately.

I got the same message. Never upgraded to 3.0, so I'm sticking with 2 until all the kinks are ironed out.

Upgrade to 3.0.1 ASAP

Following a significant number of people (including me) reporting the loss of all of their ATV media and having to resync it all, Apple have released a software upgrade (3.0.1) to fix a bug in 3.0. If you have upgraded to 3.0 make sure you upgrade to 3.0.1 ASAP.

Yeah. I just got that email from Apple.

Installing 3.01 now. I'll report back if something doesn't look right.

Note: it's looking like at least two restarts, not one like Apple says.

This must be a pretty serious issue because they had a somewhat similar problem with iTunes syncing in one of the previous v2.X releases that they didn't fix for months. With this "old" bug iTunes would delete all of the protected content from the Apple TV whenever iTunes couldn't connect to the iTunes Store (even if your internet connection dropped for only a few tens of seconds). This problem continued for months but it was interesting that the fix from Apple appeared only a short while after MacCentral/MacWorld published a report on this very issue.

I'm downloading the v3.01 update right now, it seems to be a forced upgrade when you re-power the Apple TV. I wonder if they changed anything else?

No sound after 3.0.1 update

No sound after 3.0.1 Apple TV update (although itunes on my computer isn't constantly trying to update my entire apple tv library, bravo on that). Sound was working fine before 3.0.1 update. I have an Onkyo receiver and am using the optical input. Any way to get sound back after this update? Grrrr...am thinking Netflix is a much better way to watch movies.

Reset the Apple TV. Hold down on the Menu and "-" keys for about six seconds and the Apple TV will restart.

Tried that, but didn't get my sound back. Thanks for the suggestion. Any other ideas?

Had no problems with 3.0 and just updated to 3.0.1, with no problems. Glad to have a company so quick to correct problems and flaws.:)

Same experience here. No problems prior to 3.0.1 either though...

Toggle the "Music Volume Control" under the "Audio & Video" settings. If that doesn't work, try playing a movie preview from iTunes or a range of different sources (Movies, TV Shows, Music, Podcasts, etc.).

3.01 is still a disaster for me. Cannot load content from iTunes. Takes 5 mins per SONG.
