Over the past few days, I rebooted my iPhone3G several times so that it the cache would be fresh for updates, and I know what the speed of OS 2.2.1 was like. Now, after updating to OS 3.0, my iPhone3G is now noticeably faster, both the main OS and in all of the Apps. Although I'm sure the 3G-S is even faster, this software update did make the standard 3G OS faster. The 3G network data speed and Safari appear to be unchanged though.

The review on gizmodo also says it's slower or at best the same.

Very interesting. My phone is clearly faster, and based on the poll results above, it appears most people think it is faster. I don't dispute Gizmodo though. I wonder if there is more involved to this. For example, if you have 100 Apps and 1000 songs versus just 40 Apps and 50 songs, the phone could function differently.

Where's the option for slower? If you ask me I reckon it's worse...

Yup, same here. I've been running OS 3.0 since beta 1, but I've been doing clean installs (setting up as a new phone) each time and I'm sorry to say, it's just as slow as ever (and many cases, noticeably worse) ... :(

Very strange... I gotta say my phone is BLAZING fast after the update. I don't think it has ever been so responsive. I wonder why I have a faster experience while others are slow?

Slower for me. I think most people might be seeing that placebo effect. I know for a fact my iPhone was noticeably faster prior to the 3.0 update. Not a big deal though.

My old 2G iPhone feels a lot faster... the home screen comes up quicker, and things like safari, email, and ipod seem to launch a lot faster as well.

To be honest, mine actually feels a lot faster. Also the installation couldn't have been easier. The only problem I had was that I wasn't picking up a signal at first, but after a soft reset, I was good to go.

My phone feels faster, Safari is a little snappier and everything kinda loads faster.

Everything is faster except for a few things. Theres a small lag in the bookmarks page, and the App Store is slow as hell right now!

Faster for me and my Phone don't have that much space 1.4GB left, Though it would be slower. Safari working a lot faster too.

Slower on my 1G Touch. Obviously. Hence why the 3G S is ridiculously fast for a phone, to power 3.0. Hopefully a 3.1 update will come sooner rather than later.

The actual phone seems a lot faster however some weird things seem slower, load up the App store and it takes a lot longer to bring up any data, when selecting a video sometimes I get the spinning icon where as on 2.0 it would play straight away. But on the whole it does work faster. But I did set it up as a new phone

It might not be the phone. The App Store is slow on my Mac at the moment.
. . . Still waiting . . .
