On the main list you see a little phone icon that shows that you made the call. If you click on the blue arrow, it goes to the contact and shows the last several calls you had with that person and how long they were divided into incoming and outgoing categories. I'd post pics, but I can't...

It even shows the duration for calls made prior to 3.0. So the iPhone was storing the data, just not displaying it.
