3.0 to 3.1.2 on 3GS?

I just got a 3GS and its on 3.0 and I was wondering if I would be able to upgrade it to 3.1.2 without getting a whole code error issue. With everyone not being able to downgrade from 4.0 without SHSH blobs, I just wanted to see if it would work the other way, making it possible to go from 3.0 to 3.1.2.

No will not be able to upgrade to 3.1.2 unless you have SHSH files saved for this version. Unless you know you have SHSH files saved and it is not difficult to check. If you are not JB or do not need to JB you can upgrade to 4.0.1 from itunes. If you do not have any SHSH files saved now is a good time to go use Tiny Umbrella to save SHSH for 4.0.1
 
If thats the case, I might just stay where I am. But thank you for the clarification. I really didn't want my phone to turn into a brick.

That SHOULD be coming out soon, right? I jailbroke my 3G on iOS4 with redsn0w and it made my phone so slow. But do you know any jailbreaks for 3.0 firmware? I tried blackra1n and spirit, but they only do 3.1 jailbreaks.

Yes, the 4.0.1 JB for 3GS and i4 should be out soon.
And I agree 4.0 is a drag on 3G models.
Just downgrade the 3G iphone to 3.1.2 thru itunes and then use blackrain or Redsnow to JB. You dont need to go down to 3.0

I thought you can't downgrade on a 3G without SHSH blobs. And my 3GS has 3.0 firmware right now, I wanna jailbreak it since I can't upgrade to 3.1.2.
 
i have a 3gs, 3.0, old bootrom and i use a mac. i would like to upgrade the firmware to 3.1.2 just so i can use certain apps. i use tmobile on it, so i have already unlocked and jailbroke it. the paths i find either dont work for an old bootrom or cant be done on a mac. any advice?

If you don't have shshs saved thru cydia or on your hard drive you cannot update or restore to anything but the latest firmware out. In this case 4.0.1
Wait for the new jb and then update to 4.0.1 , jb and unlock.

How would you do this? I've been trying to go back to 3.1.2 firmware
since i updated to 4.0. Much appreciation if you could help me.
