Hi everyone, I just got a iPhone 3GS running 3.1.2..o__o it is pretty fast compared to my friends 4.1.

I was wondering should I keep 3.1.2 or upgrade to 4.1?

I am not sure but if I want to upgrade to 4.1 I have to do a custom firmware using sn0wbreeze. Since apple is not signing 4.1. Not entirely sure..any inputs on what I should do would be greatly appreciated!

Snowbreeze = Garbage. PwnageTool (Mac) is the better choice. Or downloading a custom pwngagetool ipsw.

You can upgrade to 4.1 only if you have the shsh blobs saved. PwnageTool would be your best bet. Don't use snowbreeze.

:( No saved shsh...

I guess my only options is keeping 3.1.2 or upgrading 4.2.1.

Anyone see any issues upgrading to 4.2.1?

Btw if I do decide to upgrade to 4.2.1 will I be able to downgrade to 3.1.2 (saved shsh with tinyumbrella)
I'm not sure since 3.1.2 is pretty ancient..lol

You can upgrade to 4.2.1 but if you want to jailbreak your iPhone, it will be tethered. You'll lose your unlock if you have it.

4.2.1 is a really big mess right now concerning unlocking and jailbreaking.

Yup. Guess I will hold on to this firmware then.
Whats the best jailbreak for 3.1.2? I don't own a mac.

I'm only familiar with 4.1
