I have broken the seal, and I love this machine.

One problem, though, is this pathetic battery life! How can a brand new MBP have so little battery life? I'm only running iTunes, Firefox, and Skype. Keyboard illumination is off, and the screen is set to 2/3 brightness. This is so not cool!

congrats on the new machine!

I am not sure what the battery life on a new machine would be, but its a professional and powerful machine. Haha should be sucking a lot of power.

I just got a brand new battery from Apple and ~3.5 hours is what I'm getting too: with wifi off its ~4:15 hours.

3.5 hours is excellent. the MBP setup would be good for a desktop setup nevermind a laptop!

the amount of power it uses is crazy so a battery life that long is really good!

I hope the OP realises that the 5 hour battery life Apple quote is measured with the screen backlight on it's dimmest setting and the computer not actually doing anything.

Yeah I just got my 12" pb battery replaced through the exchange program and i can squeeze out 4:30 with wifi off and the screen dimmed. It's a much less powerful system with a smaller screen and smaller/slower HD.

I get 3 1/2 hours out of mine with WIFI on and Brightness at it's highest setting. When it runs low I just plug it in and recharge.
