3 displays on new macpro

I want to plug 3 displays to a new macpro so to do so can I put the 8800 GT on the pci 2.0 slot and an Ati 2600 on one of the other slots for a third monitor?

I´ve read on other posts that when mixing cards, nividia and ati, I might have problems? is this true? and is it a driver issue taht can be solved or is it just for mixing?

Apple previously, on the earlier mac pros, recommended against mixing ATI an nVidia in a system, they have since withdrawn that recommendation likely due to revising drivers to not conflict.

Though as an aside, it does seem strange that Apple, with its limited lines of computer (one item per category) would have different brands to choose from.
