==== EDIT === As SPINK10 notes below, the 3 Gigibit speed IS the slower speed, so disregard. : )

Hey all...

I was under the impression that the optical bay SATA was limited to 1.5 Gigibit negotiated link speed in the early 2011 MacBook Pro's (mine is a 13"), as well as possibly other 2011's.

I just put a Crucial M4 in there and now System Info is showing 3 Gigibit negotiated link speed.

Maybe I've been looking at the wrong threads, but I have not expected this at all and am pleasantly surprised.

So I post this here for FYI for whomever it may help and for general interest. :)

Did I just get lucky?

Xbench has running for ten minutes... still on Thread Test... should it take this long?

EDIT --

Ok, I just cancelled Xbench, restarted it with just the Disk test. I know the M4 is not the fasted, but are these speeds normal for this setup?

3 Gigabit is sata II speeds - 6 Gigabit is sata III

Oh, that's right. Duh. I was thrown by seeing the negotiated link speed jump from 1.5Gigibit to 3 Gigibit. :p

I wonder how much this is crippling the M4?

I have a new HDD cable on order for the original position, will put the drive in there when I get it.

Then I'll put the OEM drive in the Optibay.

When my DVD drive was in there, that SATA bus showed 1.5 Gbps negotiated link speed.

Reading through forums about that, I don't recall people saying it would change with a HDD.

That's why I'm surprised to see that.

Your xbench results seem good for a SATA II interface, should get better if you use the HD bay SATA III interface. Here are my SATA III results with n Intel 335 SSD in the HD bay.
