on christmas day i will have 3 macs in the house, apart from my 27" there will be a macbook (for the misses) and a mac book pro (work christmas bonus) i have a 1 tb time capsule which is currently used for time machine backups.. my question is if i attach a external hard drive to the usb port on the time machine will i be able to back up all 3 macs on the external drive, i will be using the time capsule to store music and pics for all macs to access, and didnt want backups going to the capsule

Well I'm not speaking from experience but a friend of mine who is knowledgeable just bought a 500 gig external. He backed up his iMac and also backed up his wife's macbook on the same external. It detected his wife's macbook and all went well. Hope this helps since there was no other responses to your question so far.
