3 year old MacBook - Updates?

I've had my MB for a while now, but have not updated any of the software like iPhoto. With the upgrade on my iPhone to iOS 5 I saw a recommendation to update iPhoto to 9.2. Problem is I have 7.1.5. This has me wondering if I shouldn't update many of my files. Thoughts?

The new iPhoto supports iCloud, so you could take pictures on your phone, and they'd automatically be synced to iPhoto on your computer over the internet.
