Here in the UK at least I've heard that buying from the Higher Education store bags you 3 years of Applecare as well as the reduced price, yet I can find no mention of this anywhere on the Apple site.

My US Mac buddy says he has never heard of free Apple care on the education store, so maybe if it does exist its a UK only thing?

Can anyone shed any light on this? Am I imagining this?

I'm not really sure with the 3 year Education apple care, i dont think its the same as the normal apple care that you can add for about £50 but the best way to find out is phone apple directly.... although they dont always know whats what with there products either

there is a three year warranty if you buy from the higher education store. it's not applecare though, there's no telephone support. and, from the way it was explained to me by someone at apple, it sounds complicated in that when you have a problem you have to take the computer to your university who will then deal with apple. not sure about the last bit though...doesn't seem realistic to me.

If you do phone apple post beack the results.

I believe there is already quite a big thread out there somewhere talking about this. I'll try and track it down

This is what's printed on the front of the UK HE store gateway:

3 year limited parts and labour warranty now standard
on all current Apple desktop and laptop computers.

Apple is pleased to announce that as part of the negotiated extension to the HE Agreement
all current Apple desktop and laptop computers are now provided with a
3 year limited parts and labour warranty
at no additional cost.
Details of the 3-year cover are provided in the HE Agreement Terms and Conditions,
which may be accessed at the bottom of the stores.

The good thing about the free 3 year HE warranty is that you can upgrade to full Apple Care for £58 or so on any Mac.
