Heaven or Hell
i wanted to know when

you hook up a 30" ACD to a MacBook Pro 15", is it necessary to plug in the Firewire and USB connections....?

or can you just do with plugging in the DVI and power connections...?

cheers

I think the screen control stuff that is on the front panel of most LCDs is controlled by USB on the ACDs.

There are 4 connectors that come out of the ACD
- power (to the power brick)
- DVI
- USB
- FW

- the latter 3 are plugged into your MBP
- this allows you to use the USB and FW ports on the back of the ACD, as well as use the buttons on the side of the ACD (power, brightness)

if you don't want to use the ACD USB & FW, the ACD will function with just the DVI plugged into your notebook (the only thing you lose is the function of the controls on the side of the ACD - no big deal)
