Any successful experience using the 30" Apple Cinema Display with a MID-2010 17" MacBook Pro?

The user manual: https://support.apple.com/kb/SP581?locale=en_US&viewlocale=en_US

It reads: "Dual-link DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter supports 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display (optional)"

What is "Optional"?

Please let me know if anyone has had the success with it!

THX!

Can the MBP do 2560x1600?
Does it have a Mini-DP port?
(Too lazy to check MacTracker)

Then said adapter should work.

Various reviews suggest to get an adapter with 1.03 firmware.

Optional as in it's not included with your MacBook.

It works with the correct Apple active adapter (MB571Z/A), which is about £80 over here.

The standard Apple and 3rd party Mini-DP to DVI adaptors are single link therefore restricted to 1920x1200 resolution.
