i just got a 5s and i would probably like to get a 30 pin adapter. the one from apple is $40! i can't afford that. does anyone know any quality alternatives that would work with the 5s?

i'm wondering if they did something to make the 5s not work with 3rd party adapters that previously worked on iphone 5...

does anyone have a cheap third party and an iphone 5s to test it out?

There isn't anythin apple can do to prevent it from working, only thing is it might display a message saying its not an apple product same as using a fake charger.

5s or 6 or 6s doesn't matter, it just gives a warning but still works. But i can't find a good cheap adapter, they all have 2-3 stars on amazon that are around 40% cheaper

Here is a great one for $12 4.5/5 stars of 1200 reviews.

apple can program the phone to refuse any cable that does not pass authentication protocols in the lightning adapter. obviously knockoffs wont be able to pass.

There have been reports of 5S not working with unapproved cables.

Even the Apple one doesn't work with the 5S, if you bought the official Apple Leather Case. The end is too big to fit through the hole in the case.
